The application process for ALFP now works in conjunction with the web resume submission system employed for all summer internships. Hence, in order to apply for ALFP you are now required to submit your resume exactly as if you were applying for a regular internship. In fact, one of the advantages of this new system, to you, is that you will automatically be considered for both regular internships and the ALFP, on the basis of a single resume submission. It also simplifies somewhat the application procedure, since the resume and references are handled electronically. There are still hard-copy components to the application, unavoidably, (including the transcript(s) and GRE scores), but you should find this new procedure considerably easier.
As is always the case, you should notify your references of your request for letters, preferably before they hear from us. Since the requests will be mailed and received in seconds after you complete the submission process, this means you should make these notifications (at least with an email to them) now, before you begin the submission process. Here is a convenient mail link to use for composing this message. If you use this, make sure that you explain to them that the request will be an electronic one, directly from AT&T Labs, and that they should wait for that request and follow the instructions given there.
Note also that if you have already submitted your resume, then the reference requests have already been sent, and they therefore contained no mention of the fellowship program. Accordingly, in this event it is up to you to clarify the situation for your references, so that they realize the purpose of the request, as this might influence how they write the letter. You can also tell them that if they wish to modify a letter already submitted, they may simply repeat the submission process, and the new letter will replace the one already in the database. [For this reason, we prefer that you submit your resume and apply for the program at the same time, rather than in two separate steps: but the choice is up to you.]
If you just wish to review the instructions without actually starting an application, we have them available on the web.
If you have not yet submitted your resume over the web to our database, then please start your ALFP application by doing so now. Please note you should NOT submit your resume twice (since that will cause your references to receive duplicate requests for their reference letters, and the resulting letters will not be properly linked to both records.)
On the other hand, if you have previously submitted your resume, and wish now to request consideration for the ALFP, you may do so, providing we can identify your resume in the system. In order to let us do so, please fill out the two fields below, using the resume code and numeric password given to you in your confirmation email. Since the password is a long string, we recommend you use a cut-paste operation to insert it here.
