Tue Oct 19 15:50:41 EDT 2010
A system and method of exchanging medical information between a user and a computer device is disclosed. The computer device can receive user input in one of a plurality of types of user input comprising speech, pen, gesture and a combination of speech, pen and gesture. The method comprises receiving information from the user associated with a medical condition and a bodily location of the medical condition on a patient in one of a plurality of types of user input, presenting in one of a plurality of types of system output an indication of the received medical condition and the bodily location of the medical condition, and presenting to the user an indication that the computer device is ready to receive further information. The invention enables a more flexible multi-modal interactive environment for entering medical information into a computer device. The medical device also generates multi-modal output for presenting a patient's medical condition in an efficient manner.

System And Method For Determining Traffic Conditions,
Tue Sep 22 15:38:47 EDT 2009
The present invention provides a method and apparatus for determining traffic conditions using wireless devices. A number of signals from the vehicles traveling in selected routes are received by several wireless communication networks via the wireless devices. The total number of signals received are used to compare if there are sufficient number of vehicles traveling on the selected routes. If so, then the location information of the moving vehicles at various times is determined by the wireless communication network and forwarded to a central computer. The central computer coordinates with the wireless communications network for information needed to compute traffic data. The central computer computes the velocity of the moving vehicles and a traffic profile is created based on the velocity and location information of the moving vehicles. Furthermore, the traffic profile is sent to the moving vehicles.

System and method for tracking the relative location of mobile stations belonging to a pre-defined group of mobile stations,
Tue Jul 15 18:12:56 EDT 2008
Embodiments of the present invention are related to a method and apparatus for determining whether each mobile station in a pre-defined group of two or more mobile stations is in compliance with acceptable location criteria. A group tracking server receives mobile station tracking information including a mobile station identifier for each mobile station. The server also receives current location coordinates corresponding to the mobile station identifier for each mobile station from a locator device. A relative location of each mobile station relative to one or more predetermined targets the calculated. The acceptable location criteria for each mobile station relative to the one or more pre-determined targets is retrieved from a location criteria database. The calculated relative location of each mobile station relative to the one or more pre-determined targets compared with the retrieved location criteria to determine whether the calculated relative location is in compliance with the acceptable location criteria. A subscriber is then notified if the calculated relative location is in compliance with the acceptable location criteria.

Method and apparatus for securely connecting a plurality of trust-group networks, a protected resource network and an untrusted network,
Tue Oct 31 18:11:41 EST 2006
A security gateway provides a secure connection among one or more networks and a protected resource network. One of the local networks may be connected to the remote private network via a VPN IPsec tunnel. The networks may be local networks that share resources without compromising the security of the protected resource network. The local networks may have access to an untrusted network such as the Internet, sharing a single connection through the security gateway. Dynamic source network address translation is used to permit access from the network connected to the protected resource network to other, less trusted networks while concealing the actual IP addresses of hosts within that network.

Targeted advertising in a telephone dialing system,
Tue Feb 15 18:10:17 EST 2005
A system and method for providing targeted advertising to telephone callers in mid-dial. The invention monitors the dialing activities of a caller. When a caller enters a partial desired telephone number, an embodiment of the present invention receives the partial number and determines whether an advertisement should be presented to the caller. If all of the appropriate conditions are met, a selected advertisement is transmitted to the caller's telephony device and the caller is given the opportunity to respond to the advertisement before the dialing operation completes.
Pseudo proxy server providing instant overflow capacity to computer networks,
Tue Feb 25 18:08:38 EST 2003
A pseudo proxy server is provided for a host network when the host network experiences periods of congestion. The host network determines whether an arrival rate of data requests exceeds a predetermined threshold. If so, the host network adds an address of a pseudo proxy server to a list of servers aliased to the host network. Thereafter, data requests are routed to the pseudo proxy server on a round robin basis. The pseudo proxy server may be engaged without first loading information content from the host network on the pseudo proxy server.
A URL Rewriting Pseudo Proxy Server,
Tue Nov 10 18:05:06 EST 1998
The work behind this patent came about as part of an RFP for hosting systems for the New Century Network, a consortium of the top 100 newspapers in the United States. The pseudo proxy servers allow the newspapers to share articles while maintaining individual newspaper brand and corporate identity. The scheme also allows the newspapers to do revenue sharing. The scheme is transparent to the end user or customer. A local newspaper in say Wyoming may allow local subscribers to click into articles from a regional newspaper perhaps in New York. The local newspaper handles authentication and billing for the local user and reconciliation with the regional newspapers. All articles appear to the end user to be served from the local newspaper's server. This turns out to be important for both advertising and billing purposes. The patent describes how URLs can be rewritten to appear to be local by using an HTTP server that dynamically rewrites the URLs when they are requested. Further the server acts a proxy for the domains of the regional newspapers. These URL rewriting, domain specific, proxies require no end user intervention and are otherwise transparent to the end user's experience.
