Well-executed consumer behavior models provide marketing tools and insights that enable a superior customer experience. AT&T statisticians collaborate with the marketing organization to predict behaviors such as attrition, product adoption, and customer care calling. We go beyond traditional database marketing support by capitalizing on our massive communications network and sophisticated data mining capabilities, ensuring a competitive advantage. The statistical modeling work provides a natural testbed for more fundamental research. We recently initiated and have published research on word-of-mouth marketing, and self-selection issues have prompted investigation into propensity scores and alternative matching algorithms.
