Research Engineer in Cloud Technologies and Services (AT&T Labs Research)

AT&T Labs-Research, one of the premier industrial research laboratories in the world, is looking for talented development and engineering support in all areas of cloud computing to join an existing core team building transformational next-generation cloud solutions and services for AT&T.

AT&T is currently embarking on a transformative initiative that will change AT&T’s networking businesses and enable intelligent services by leveraging cloud technologies and Software Defined Networking (SDN). This transformation is expected to give greater access to technologies and innovations from data centers, including rapid innovation in server hardware, virtualization, cloud computing, software defined network switches and controllers, competitive independent software and software development solutions, and well supported open source communities that deliver parity to the industry. The transformation enables exciting opportunities for development talent to collaborate with our research staff on exploring how such networks should be designed and managed.

Areas of experience include but are not limited to the following:

  • Cloud Computing - compute, storage, and network virtualization
  • Large scale software systems
  • Performance measurement
  • Data center software management
  • Web based application development
  • Distributed storage and database technologies
  • Cloud networking solutions, both within and between data centers
  • Cloud security

Required Qualifications:

  • Entry into this title will require Technical Title Plan (TTP) Board Approval
  • Candidate shall have a PhD in an approved field from an accredited university and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree in an approved field from an accredited university and a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's degree in an approved field from an accredited university and a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience
  • Degree such as Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or Mathematics from an accredited university
  • Candidates will work closely with research and development teams to develop and deliver production systems
  • Expertise with Java and Python are a priority
  • Experience with Open Source software development, and OpenStack is an asset
  • In addition, this role requires a demonstrated ability to operate independently, with minimal oversight, and proven experience in collaborative work environments with external customers
  • The key task allocation for this position will be approximately 60% for software development, 25% for collaborative design and analysis with the research team and its partners, and 15% for documentation of software, APIs, and other development artifacts
