Our researchers and developers have made important contributions to the technological advances that have significantly changed network services and Internet applications.   • Seven of our researchers or former researchers are members of the National Academy of Engineering — Steve Bellovin, Neil Sloane, Elaine Weyuker, Ward Whitt, Jesse Russell, Bishnu Atal, and Larry Rabiner.
  • Many of our researchers are IEEE Fellows, a distinction the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers awards to outstanding contributors to the profession.
  • Former AT&T Labs Researcher Peter Shor received the 1998 Nevanlinna Prize for his groundbreaking mathematical contributions to information sciences.
  • AT&T Labs won the 1998 Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring.
  • Former AT&T Labs Researcher Barry Haskell (with Arun Netravali of Bell Labs) won Japan's prestigious C&C (Computer & Communications) 1997 Prize for his research in video data compression.
  • AT&T Labs has received the Breakthrough Award from WEPAN, the Women in Engineering Program and Advocates Network. The award honors employers of women engineers for creating a work environment that enhances their career success.
