Method For User-Aided Network Performance And Connection Quality Reporting,
Tue Dec 28 15:05:27 EST 2010
Method for user-aided communication evaluation and performance and for producing a quality report regarding a communication connection entails signaling of a services provider by a first endpoint user in real-time entails establishing a first communication link between the first endpoint user and a second endpoint user. A second communication link between the first end point user and the services provider is determined. The methods continue by analyzing of the first and second communication links for quality by the services provider and generating statistics based on the analysis for quality in the connection. The methods can conclude by producing a quality report using those statistics. The quality report can initiate an immediate response in real-time or can be stored for a later response.
Voice Over Internet Protocol Call Recording,
Tue Jun 15 15:04:04 EDT 2010
Disclosed is a method and apparatus for VoIP call recording. A call control network element monitors an existing telephone call for a call recording request from one of the parties. Upon receipt of the request, a determination is made as to whether recording is authorized. This determination may be made, for example, by sending a permission request message to the non-requesting party and waiting for receipt of a permission message from the non-requesting party. Alternatively, the authorization determination may be made by accessing a database storing call recording authorization information whereby subscribers can pre-authorize certain types of recording in order to expedite the authorization determination during an actual call. If authorized, the data packets implementing the voice data stream between the parties are duplicated, and the duplicate data packets are sent to a media server to record the call.

Method And System For Facilitating Call-Related Activities,
Tue Jun 14 18:10:24 EDT 2005
A method is disclosed for facilitating a call related to a computer activity. The disclosed method includes associating a computer activity with a call activity. That method also includes anticipating the call activity based on a performance of the computer activity, and providing, via a user-computer interface, a call activity trigger associated with the anticipated call activity.
Targeted advertising in a telephone dialing system,
Tue Feb 15 18:10:17 EST 2005
A system and method for providing targeted advertising to telephone callers in mid-dial. The invention monitors the dialing activities of a caller. When a caller enters a partial desired telephone number, an embodiment of the present invention receives the partial number and determines whether an advertisement should be presented to the caller. If all of the appropriate conditions are met, a selected advertisement is transmitted to the caller's telephony device and the caller is given the opportunity to respond to the advertisement before the dialing operation completes.
Linked call forwarding,
Tue Jun 29 18:09:56 EDT 2004
A system for synchronized call forwarding of an incoming call from any of a plurality of telephones includes receiving a synchronized call forwarding command at a first telephony device, sending the synchronized call forwarding command from the first telephony device to a second telephony device over a first network, receiving a telephone call at the second telephony device over a second network, and forwarding the incoming call in accordance with the synchronized call forwarding command received from the first telephony device over the second network.
Method and system for transmitting background audio during a telephone call,
Tue Jan 27 18:09:00 EST 2004
A voice processing system provides background audio during a telephone call between a caller and a callee telephony device. A storage system contains digital audio data and a database includes a plurality of subscriber data elements associated with the caller and callee devices. A processing device provides the digital audio data during the telephone call based on the subscriber data elements linked to the caller or callee devices such that background audio is provided during a telephone call.
Method and apparatus for remotely controlling telephone call-forwarding,
Tue Dec 31 18:08:36 EST 2002
A call-forwarding system can be remotely controlled in a simple and easily understood manner, thereby increasing the usage of call-forwarding. By maintaining a registry of special telephone numbers for a user's telephone and, upon receiving a telephone call from one of the special telephone numbers, the system forwards calls to the one of the special telephone numbers. The call-forwarding system includes a registry of special telephone numbers and a call-forwarding controller which, upon receiving a call from one of the special telephone numbers, forwards calls to the one of the special telephone numbers. In addition, the call-forwarding controller includes a caller-ID application which identifies all incoming telephone calls and passes this information to the controller. The controller then compares the incoming call to the telephone numbers in the registry and, upon obtaining a match, activates a routine for forwarding future incoming calls to the matched telephone number. The above method of controlling call-forwarding of an office telephone from a remote telephone provides the end user a very simple interface to allow remote enabling and disabling of call-forwarding.
System and method for creation and conversion of electronic mail messages for delivery to telephone recipients,
Tue Sep 10 18:08:27 EDT 2002
An automated message processing system is disclosed which receives an electronic mail message, coverts the mail message into speech and delivers the converted message to one or more telephone recipients identified in the electronic mail message. The system includes means for creating an electronic mail message which identifies one or more telephone recipients, means for converting the electronic mail message to speech and means for delivering the converted electronic mail message to the one or more telephone recipients identified in the electronic mail message. The system of the present invention utilizes text-to-speech techniques to convert the text in the electronic mail message into speech.

Method and system for delivery of e-mail and alerting messages,
Tue Feb 06 18:06:58 EST 2001
A messaging system uses the standard email subject line to control where a message gets delivered, when a message gets delivered and the appearance of a message when it gets delivered. This enables a company to use its standard intranet email system as a pseudo real-time messaging transport with a range of delivery options. Several codes control the features of the alerting message, and a predefined escape sequence for use by the sender is recognizable by a dedicated server. This escape sequence enables these codes. By placing the escape sequence in a predetermined location in each message, the sender indicates to the system that codes for controlling the features of the alerting message follow the escape sequence. Using these codes, the user can then specify when, how often and in what manner the alert message is displayed to the recipient in a window on the recipient's workstation. In addition, the sender can certain aspects of message routing and delivery using these codes. In addition, routing of the message within the network can be controlled by the sender in the same manner by specifying a particular routing within the subject line of the message following the escape sequence. This includes routing the message to a facsimile, a pager or a telephone, or voice mail system. This is in addition to the normal email address used in the message.
Laptop computer with integrated telephone,
Tue Mar 07 18:05:30 EST 2000
A laptop has an integrated telephone, in which the telephone and mouse unit are arranged in a manner that allows the mouse to be adjusted to either side of the laptop computer to accommodate either a left-handed or right-handed person. A telephone is tightly integrated into the body of a laptop PC creating a much more natural and ergonomic physical interface between the phone and the computer. The resulting device includes a mounting for the mouse module, allowing ease of use by both right-handed and left-handed users. The laptop computer includes a recessed storage area for the small telephone handset. The storage area is located in the area just below the keyboard, i.e., the area where the user's wrists usually lie. The telephone handset and associated cable reside in the tray. The mouse module slides along a guide way in the tray, and can be positioned on either side of the guide tray/telephone handset storage tray. The benefits of the above tight integration of the laptop PC and the telephone are many. First, one's laptop becomes one's telephone console. Second, the resulting telephone has local user programmable processing and a large storage area. Furthermore, the telephone has a large high resolution display. Moreover, integrating an IP telephone into the laptop allows communication over the same network IP links that the laptop communicates over normally. Finally, this does not preclude the inclusion of a standard PSTN telephone in the laptop.
