My research concerns natural language processing for multimodal dialogue systems and its application to the creation of prototype multimodal interfaces for next generation interactive services. This involves fundamental research on the nature of multimodal interaction, determination of principles for multimodal interface design, and the development and evaluation of language processing architectures capable of parsing and understanding multimodal input and generating multimodal output. I am architect and lead developer for the Multimodal Access To City Help project, a mobile multimodal system prototype. I am also actively involved in web standards and serve as editor-in-chief of the W3C Multimodal EMMA: Extensible MultiModal Annotation specification.
