COMMENT

a(n)/a(n-1) tends to (1 + sqrt(2)).

FORMULA

a(n) = 2*A000129(n) - 1; where A000129 = the Pell sequence, (1, 2, 5, 12, 29,...). a(1) = 1, a(2) = 3, then for n>2, a(n) = 2*a(n-1) + a(n-2) + 2.

G.f.: x*(1+x^2)/(-1+x)/(-1+2*x+x^2). - R. J. Mathar (mathar(AT)strw.leidenuniv.nl), Nov 14 2007

EXAMPLE

a(3) = 2*A000129(3) - 1 = 2*5 - 1.

a(5) = 57 = 2*a(4) + a(3) + 2 = 2*23 + 9 + 2.
