  • AT&T business accounts for Public Sector Institutions
AT&T works with various institutions (schools, learning centers, libraries, etc.) to offer devices and/or services.

When we collect data, we might do it directly from you or your child, like when you sign up for a service. We might also collect it automatically when you or your child use the products or services we offer.

We also don’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18 without parental notice. If we have reason to know a child is under 18 we get parental consent where legally required (e.g., when we know a child is under 13 and/or a product or service is directed to the child). In some cases, we may obtain consent directly from a child prior to processing the child’s data where required by law.

As required by law, we provide you the following rights and choices when it comes to your children’s data:

  • To consent to the sharing of your child(ren)’s data. This consent may be provided in the settings of the device, app, or account depending on the product or service your child uses.

  • To change your mind and withdraw consent to the collection or use of your child(ren)’s personal data, which may mean you have to stop using the product or service.

  • To request the personal data AT&T has collected about your child(ren), including getting a copy of the personal data in a form they can read, use, and transfer, where we can.

  • To ask us to delete or correct the personal data AT&T has collected about your child(ren), subject to certain exceptions.

  • To appeal our response to your privacy request and receive an explanation from us if we are unable to comply with your request. We may need to collect some personal data from you to confirm you’re the parent or guardian.

Of course, if you exercise any of these rights or choices, AT&T will not treat you differently.

Data Collection

The following products and services collect different kinds of data. The categories of children’s data collected in the last twelve months are listed below.

The types of personal data we collect:

  • Equipment Data: This includes details such as the device ID, phone number, settings, software, and use.

  • Customer Proprietary Network Information (CPNI): CPNI is data about your voice services with us, like how you use your phone, and your call history.

  • Network Performance: We keep track of how well our network is working. This means we look at how it's being used and how good it is. We check things like connecting to other carriers and Internet service providers, IP addresses, text messages, how people interact with content, Wi-Fi connections, and usage data.

  • Location: Location data is created when devices connect with cell towers, Wi-Fi routers, Bluetooth services, access points, other devices, beacons, and GPS satellites.

  • You can stop this collection of data by not using the tablet and canceling the service.

The types of personal data we collect:

  • Account Data: We collect data like email address, username, birth month and year, password or the use of Google or Facebook credentials.

  • Performance Data: We collect data related web and app metrics, like page views, clicks, video playbacks and website visits to ensure the product is working well for the users.

Parents can opt out and request deletion of this analytics data using the platform’s “delete account” service, or by sending a support request via the contact page link found on the website.

The types of personal data we collect:

  • Geolocation Data: This data allows us to identify the location of your child’s AT&T amiGO™ devices (i.e., tablet and watch) and app.

  • Unique Identifiers: These identifiers help us identify your child’s AT&T amiGO™ devices and app on our network.

  • Call and Text Data: This includes data services like how many texts are sent or Customer Proprietary Network Information (CPNI) generated when your child uses our wireless voice services.

  • Information About Photo, Video, Audio, and Text Messages: We transmit these types of messages to the recipient, and they are stored on the device. We do not access or store the messages or photos, videos, and audio clips generated by the amiGo device elsewhere.

  • How Your Child Uses the Device: This means we keep track of things like when the watch is switched on or off, when it goes into or out of airplane mode, how much battery the watch has, how many steps your child takes, and what else they do with the watch. We gather this info so we can send you updates in the app about what your child is doing and how the watch is working.

  • Data from Use of Our Product, Services, and Network: This includes data of connecting carriers and Internet service providers, the IP address, text messages, data use history, content interactions, language settings, and other network and device analysis data.

  • Device and Service Performance Data: This includes reports from your child’s device about signal strength, speeds, device, app and service performance, including dropped calls or failed data messages.

  • Back-up Data: This includes, for example, contacts set by a user in the app. We collect this data so that it can be restored to a new watch when pairing.

  • Name and Age (optional): We collect the name and age of the child directly from you when you set up the watch to personalize the product.

You may stop this collection of data by discontinuing the use of the device and canceling the service. You can delete the data you entered in the AT&T amiGO™ app by either deleting your child’s profile, cancelling your AT&T amiGO™ devices and app, or cancelling your AT&T amiGO™ platform subscription.

The types of personal data we collect:

  • Device Identifiers: Each Android or iOS phone, tablet, or iPad is assigned a unique code, retrievable by the Secure Family App. This code identifies each device that has a profile associated with it.

  • Phone Numbers: We store the phone numbers of mobile devices added to the Secure Family service by the account holder.

  • Email Addresses: We store the email addresses of family members who are invited by parents to join the Secure Family app.

  • Geolocation Data: We use GPS and other location technologies to find and track where connected devices with the AT&T Secure Family app are located. This data is saved so you can see real-time locations on a map or track location history up to 7 days.

  • Web Browsing Activity: We store the list of websites visited on devices with Secure Family Parental Controls. This history is stored to provide activity reports to parents on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis for 60 days.

  • App Activity: We store the list of apps accessed on devices with Secure Family Parental Controls. This list, including app name and amount of time the app was used, is stored for reporting for 60 days.

  • Time Zone: We use this data to provide the service.

You can stop this collection of your child’s data at any time by having them stop using the app, deleting your child’s profile, or deleting the Secure Family App.

AT&T works with various institutions (schools, learning centers, libraries, etc.) to offer devices and/or services. We have reason to know that some users may be under 18, however the institutions manage the device relationship such that AT&T is simply the provider of service and does not get access to any user personal information that can identify students. All data collected under these business agreements is separated and not used for any marketing or advertising purpose.

We collect children’s data to provide the product or service that collects the data and not for any other additional purposes such as targeted advertising. But we may also use children’s personal data to do things like the following as allowed by law:

  • Set up and manage accounts, handle transactions, payments, and billing, and take care of requests related to our products and services, as well as third-party products and services that are charged to your accounts. We check if someone qualifies for a specific product or service. Help stop activities that are fraudulent, harmful, dishonest, abusive, or illegal. Fix errors and ensure the quality, security, and safety of our network, products and services.

  • Review general trends (using combined data that cannot be linked to any individual child) to evaluate the performance of our products, services, and network.

  • Guide our development of children’s products and services, when grouped with other users.

  • Comply with court orders, subpoenas, and lawful discovery requests, and as otherwise authorized or required by law.

  • Enforce our policies, terms and conditions, or other agreements.

  • Manage legal claims or disputes.

We do not sell personal information of anyone who we know is under 18, unless we receive affirmative permission to do so, nor do we share it for advertising purposes.

Sometimes we hire others to help us provide a product or service, and these service providers may need access to children’s data. They are required to keep children’s data we provide to them confidential and to use it only to provide the services we requested. We will obtain parental consent for this data sharing where legally required.

We may share children’s data with third parties, including government agencies, when required by law or to protect someone’s safety, if we believe it is reasonably necessary.

This Chart shows the names and specific categories of third parties with which AT&T shares children’s personal information, categories of information shared and the purposes for such sharing.

We keep personal data for only as long as reasonably necessary to fulfill the specific purposes for which the information was collected or as needed for business, tax or legal reasons and then it is deleted.

We work hard to keep children’s data safe using technology and process controls. No security is perfect. In the event of a data incident, we have plans for responding. We will notify you as the law requires.

This notice doesn’t apply to personal data collected by non-AT&T apps and websites, and we encourage parents to review the terms and policies of all apps and websites before allowing children to use them. For more, check out the Digital Parenting resources on the AT&T Screenready website.

We need to collect your child’s data (as described above) to provide the relevant products or services listed in this notice. If you change your mind about giving consent or ask us to delete your child’s data, the product or service may no longer work and at least some of the data may need to be maintained for business, tax, or legal reasons. Sometimes, the only way we can stop collecting your child’s data might be to stop your child’s service.

We keep this privacy notice up to date. You’ll know there’s an update when the date at the top changes. We’ll let you know before we make any big changes to this notice. If you keep using our products and services after we notify you, we’ll take that to mean you’re fine with the changes for any new personal data we collect. Those changes will not apply to previously collected personal data unless we get consent from impacted consumers.

You can contact us with questions about this notice by submitting a question in our data request center. You can also write us at AT&T Privacy Notice, Chief Privacy Office, 208 S. Akard, Room 2900, Dallas, TX, 75202.
